Monsters and Madman

ACT ONE: SCENE THREE

A bare set, much the same as the first scene. A young woman's body lies center stage. EDWARD BERRINGER stands by the corpse, smoking. He throws down his cigarette and, as he does so, he notices something lying atop the body. He bends down and picks it up.

BERRINGER
Another goddamn smiley button!

(He throws it down in anger. As he does so, something else catches his eye, a small slip of paper several feet away from the body. He picks it up and studies it as two AMBULANCE ATTENDANTS enter, load the body onto a stretcher, and wheel it offstage. He smiles ruefully as he places the paper in his breast pocket.)

I've got you now, you son-of-a-bitch...

(He exits as the lights fade.)
