Solo Pilot

by Jim Farrar (1978)

This kid flies alone
Straight as an arrow
He’s dry as a bone

He likes the vain and
He listens to the wind moan
But how can a man be happy
When he’s so far away from home?

It’s easy if you can
Fly alone:
A solo pilot, if you will,
Who’s heart’s as hard as stone

He’s a passing through, you see,
And nothing more
So watch him very carefully
He’ll only be here but a moment
Then it’s off to strange
New lands
To do it all again

Goodbye, my friend,
Goodbye
