John S. Tharp (1803-1854) was born in Ohio and married Elizabeth Overly in Ross County, Ohio in 1827. They had five children - Mary, Joseph, Newton, John, and George.
After Elizabeth's death he moved his family to Marshall County, Indiana where he died in 1854 at the age of 51. He is buried in St. Paul's Cemetery in Marshall County.
