Jacob Cryder Made Guardian
of Tharp Boys in Ross County, Ohio

January 9, 1856

Jacob Cryder becomes the guardian of the property of Tharp brothers - George (12), John (14), and Newton Tharp (17). Jacob is the husband of the boy's cousin Elizabeth Overly, daughter of John and Sarah Overly.

Know all Men by these Presents, That we Jacob H. Cryder, George W. Cryder and John Overly all of Ross county, and State of Ohio are held and firmly bound unto the State of Ohio, in the penal sum of Two Thousand dollars, current money, to the payment of which well and truly to be made to the State of Ohio, WE bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severally, firmly by these presents.

Sealed with our seals, and dated this 9th day of January 1856

WHEREAS: John O. Tharp aged fourteen years in August 1855 with the consent of the Probate Court for the County of Ross and State of Ohio made choice of Jacob H. Cryder as his Guardian -- the said John O. being a minor and legal representative of John S. Tharp deceased.

NOW THE CONDITION OF THE ABOVE OBLIGATION, IS SUCH, That if the above bound Jacob H Cryder Guardian, as aforesaid, will render an accurate statement of his transactions, with a just account of the profits arising from the estate of said minor and deliver up the same to the Court, at such time as they may require, and discharge with fidelity the trust reposed in him then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
