KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, that we Philander McCarter and Phanney Newton of the county of Smyth and state of Virginia are held and firmly bound unto John Floyd GOVERNOR of the Comonwealth of Virginia, in the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Dollars; to be paid to the said Governor for the time being, and his successors in office; to which payment well and truly be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs &c. jointly and severally, firmly by the presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this fifth day of Dec 1832
THE CONDITION of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bound Philander McCarter hath this day obtained from the Clerk of the county Court of Smyth a license for his marriage with Thursey Williams Daughter of Levi Williams of said County. If, therefore, there be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage, then the above obligation to be void.
